Typical cargo

Light and bulky goods: automotive parts in cages, packaging, insulation, furniture, white goods, and stackable pallets.

In plain words

Most European countries limit vehicles to about 4 m in height. A mega trailer gets more inside height by lowering the deck to about 0.95 m, using smaller wheels and a low coupling. The tractor unit must have a low fifth wheel to match.

Mega trailers are popular for light, bulky cargo that fills the space before reaching the weight limit, and for goods that can be stacked two layers high. Not all loading docks fit the lower deck, so ask the warehouse if they can load it.

Advantages

  • About 10% more volume than a standard trailer.
  • Two layers of 1.4–1.5 m pallets fit inside.
  • Loads from the rear, side, and top like a standard tilt.

Limits

  • Needs a tractor unit with a low fifth wheel.
  • The low deck does not match every loading dock.
  • Payload is no higher than a standard trailer.

Example from real shipping

An automotive supplier ships plastic parts in cages that are 1.45 m tall. In a standard trailer, they can stack only one layer. In a mega trailer with 3 m inside height, they stack two layers, so one truck carries almost twice the cargo.
